PureCircle and AMIGOS Paraguay
Promoting healthy eating and a clean environment
- PureCircle has teamed up with Paraguay Non-Profit Organization (NGO): Amigos de las Americas to start a new project: Promoting Healthy Eating and a Clean Environment.
- The project will support initiatives in local communities and includes work against deforestation by building efficient stoves so that rural communities cut and burn fewer
trees; improving community sanitation by
the construction of latrines; and, establishing
healthy eating habits in the home.
Encouraging Healthy Consumption
- PureCircle Reb-A is an entirely natural product.
- It is a zero-calorie sweetener which complements sugar and is a substitute for artificial sweeteners.
- PureCircle’s products are based only on natural ingredients, and no genetically modified plants are used.
Investing Money and Resources into Farming Communities
- Stevia is an attractive crop for farming communities being both easy to grow and offering an attractive economic return.
- The stevia plant provides farmers with a higher annual return when compared with alternative crops.
- In many cases, PureCircle is providing an agronomic support to help subsistance-level farming communities grow stevia.
Treating the Environment with Respect
- Stevia is a renewable crop with minimal environmental impact, and PureCircle encourages sustainable farming practices.
- As high quality Reb-A is 200 – 400 times sweeter than sugar; planting stevia requires less land space, which means a significantly reduced impact on the environment
- Stevia waste is recycled into Bio fuel for our plants and we have initiated an industry-leading water sustainability programme.
Ensuring Commercial Viability and Sustainability
- The Company receives Stevia leaf from over fifteen thousands farmers working over 15,000 hectares of plantations. This means that the average plantation size is less than 1 hectare.
- PureCircle works with independent farmers in Kenya, Paraguay, China, Thailand and Laos.
